New Camera!!! Saturday, Nov 29 2008

I’m at my friend Erin’s house right now, but I wanted to let everyone know that I have a new camera! As many of you know, mine was stolen during the quiz trip to Kentucky. I shopped around for awhile and finally narrowed it down to two cameras. A Sony Cybershot and a Kodak Easyshare. After some thought, I decided on the Easyshare because it cost less and I liked the look a bit better. So this afternoon I went into a Best Buy with Erin. She had told me that they were going out of business and I went in with her to see if they had any special deals. We got in and discovered that they were not going out of business, but I got some questions answered and was wishing that I could just go ahead and get the camera, but I new that it was impossible. So I turned around to go and there was an associate who had just walked up behind me. I jumped a little and he apologized and said, “You looking to buy a camera?” “I wish.” “Well, I usually work in computers, but what’re you looking at?” “The Kodak here.” “Oh, really? If you want something with the same options for less money (and which I personally like better) there’s the Sony.” He stepped over a little bit and out of all of the Sony cameras, he picked the cybershot that I had been looking at! “It’s on sale until we close tonight.” I looked: $50 off the original price. I asked some more questions. He didn’t have all of the answers because he works in computers, but he looked up the information that he didn’t know. Well, I don’t carry money with me most of the time, and basically never more than $10, but Mom and Dad were in town and they have credit cards, checks, etc. So I borrowed Erin’s cell phone and called them to ask them to stop by Best Buy and get the camera. :D So my new camera is at home with my family and I’m here at Erin’s… dying to see it!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I am SO happy, though! I also got a memory stick. I think Dad told me that it was $30 off! So I hope that everything is really working out as well as I think it is. I keep thinking that something is going to be wrong just because I’ve never handled the camera. lol There’s faith for you!

Anyhow… I need to get going. Mom wanted me to be sure that I get into bed in good time since we have to be at church in the morning. It’s about an hour from Erin’s.

Pictures will follow!!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving! Friday, Nov 28 2008

Hey, ya’ll! I hope that your Thanksgiving was wonderful! Mine was pretty good. I’ll share some pics in just  a minute. First I’ll let ya’ll know what’s going on with the giveaway. We have a winner! My method of choosing the winner was about as random as it gets. I wrote all SIX names down on slips of paper, shook the papers, and picked one. Each of the girls who entered only had a 16.7% chance of winning, so that’s not much. Anyhow, I hope to get the CD and book in the mail next week.

Yesterday was not a good camera day for me. lol *sigh* I kept forgetting to get the camera out! :( Thanks to Erica, though, for letting me keep borrowing her camera. Hopefully I’ll be able to get one soon…

OKAY… so no smile pictures! How about just a pic of him taking a drink?

Now for the disturbing news: After all of my reminding myself and being reminded by others that we wanted to take pics of our feast… We forgot! :( My day wasn’t ruined, but I was still pretty mad.

Anyhow. I had a great day. We finished off the day by watching Facing the Giants and playing games.

Hope your day was as good as mine!

It’s me! Wednesday, Nov 26 2008

Hey, everyone! It’s me! And I’m actually going to tell you about some of what’s going on right now in my life. Where to start is the major question, I guess. lol I don’t remember the last time I really told anyone what all is happening.

So… first off, school. *ahem!* Did I really want to go there? I guess so. History is awesome! I’m basically done for the semester except for a thing I need to finish on Bloody Mary. [NOTE: Testament to my good upbringing: I felt VERY disrespectful as I typed that name... lol!] Writing is going really well, too. I have a couple of B’s, which irritates me, but it’s mostly A’s. My grandma has been grading my work, so I email it to her when I’m done. It’s really cool ’cause before I just knew that I’d done everything and wasn’t sure if it was a good job or not. When I have kids I am totally going to grade their work for them! Math… I don’t want to talk about, so we’ll skip it. Science is really cool, but SLLLLOOOWWW.  VERY slow. I’m getting as far behind as I was when I started. NOT cool, but at least I’m enjoying what I’m learning, right? Literature is pretty awesome. I’m doing a study thing on Jane Eyre. Right up my ally, that is. Charlotte Bronte was amazing!

Quizzing is going okay. I have Mark 1-5 quotable, 6-8 almost quotable, 9-13 content, 15 & 16 is what I’m working on, and 1,2,3 John & Jude looks pretty good. I just need to put more time into it all. I’d certainly appreciate your prayers. I think (though I don’t know this for sure) that our next tournament will be CI. That’s the tournament that we have at our church. (Colorado Invitational) That’s Feb. 13 & 14. (My B-day! How cool is that??? I get to do one of my favorite things on my B-day! [assuming that I make the team...])

My piano lessons are going well. I’m finding out that my previous teacher didn’t teach me quite right. Just a little frustrating to have to break old habits. *sigh* But I’m having SO much fun! I love playing the piano!!!! Right now I’m working on re-doing “A Christmas Overture” by Philip Keveren. I did it three years ago, but I love it enough to do it again, and I learned a couple of parts wrong, so it’ll be good to go back and do it right. Maybe I’ll tape myself doing it and post it on youtube. MAYBE. It’s not on youtube, so I can’t give you a link to watch someone else play it. The other piece that I’m working on is Rondo Alla Turca (Mozart). That’s pretty popular, so there’s a bunch on youtube. I’ll let you find it yourself if you’re interested. I’m almost done with it.

We just watched the “new” Sense and Sensibility. It was pretty good! I think that I might even like it better than the old one. Wiloughby wasn’t as good, but the rest were great! And John Dashwood’s son!!!!! The Dashwoods didn’t have a kid in the old (Kate Winslet) one. Anyhow. I’d highly recommend it to ya’ll. There was one swear word, but once you’ve seen it, you’ll know exactly where to mute it from there on out. Anyhow…

I need to get going. I’m going to make some pie crusts! My sister needs the computer, so that’s another reason for me to get going.

Hope ya’ll have a great thanksgiving!

So… Thursday, Nov 20 2008

I’m getting all of the political stuff AFTER the election! What is up with that??? Some of it is kinda funny, so I’m just going to put anything I get on this post so that it’ll all be in one place in case I want to look back on it in years to come. If I do look back, I’ll probably sigh and say, “sad but true” about some of this. Here’s what I’m starting with:

HTML issues Tuesday, Nov 18 2008

Okay, so generally speaking I can work HTML and get my blog to look the way I want, but if you look at the bottom of my left module, you’ll see a link that isn’t supposed to be there. I WANT my traffic to show up, not a link to feedjit. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix it? Thanks!

Unworthy Monday, Nov 17 2008

I have really struggled with my walk with God for the last couple weeks. It takes a toll on a lot of things. My prayer life, my meditation, and -more obvious to my friends- my quizzing. I have felt SO unworthy, and SO messed up that when I come to pray, I kneel down, sigh, and get back up without saying anything because I just don’t feel right. Every. Single. Morning. this week. (And last week… I forget that this is only Monday) Am I discouraged? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have been discouraged out of my mind! The worst part of it is that when I go to church, everyone looks like they’re doing fine! No struggles. I try and remind myself that I’m not alone, but when one feels alone it becomes hard to focus on the fact that you aren’t. So where am I heading with all of this? Well, I’m subscribed to the Desiring God Blog, and this is what I found in my inbox tonight:

(Author: John Piper)

A vague bad feeling that you are a crummy person is not the same as conviction for sin. Feeling rotten is not the same as repentance.

This morning I began to pray, and felt unworthy to be talking to the Creator of the universe. It was a vague sense of unworthiness. So I told him so. Now what?

Nothing changed until I began to get specific about my sins. Crummy feelings can be useful if they lead to conviction for sins. Vague feelings of being a bad person are not very helpful. The fog of unworthiness needs to take shape into clear dark pillars of disobedience. Then you can point to them and repent and ask for forgiveness and take aim to blow them up.

So I began to call to mind the commands I frequently break. These are the ones that came to mind.

  • Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Not 95%, 100%. (Matthew 22:37)
  • Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Be as eager for things to go well for him as you are for things to go well for you. (Matthew 22:39)
  • Do all things without grumbling. No grumbling—inside or outside. (Philippians 2:14)
  • Cast all your anxieties on him—so you are not being weighed down by it anymore. (1 Peter 5:7)
  • Only say things that give grace to others—especially those closest to you. (Ephesians 4:29)
  • Redeem the time. Don’t fritter or dawdle. (Ephesians 5:16)
  • Set your mind on things that are above. Connect all your thoughts to Christ. (Colossians 3:2)
  • Do not return evil for evil—like when your wife or daughter says something you don’t like. (1 Thessalonians 5:15)
  • Rejoice always, and again I say rejoice. Always. If sorrowful, keep rejoicing. (Philippians 4:4; 2 Corinthians 6:10)
  • Give thanks in all circumstances. All. All. All. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

So much for any pretensions to great holiness! I’m undone.

But now it is specific. I look it in the eye. I’m not whining about feeling crummy. I’m apologizing to Christ for not keeping all that he commanded. I’m broken and I’m angry at my sin. I want to kill it, not me. I’m not suicidal. I’m a sin hater and a sin murderer (“Put to death what is earthly in you” Colossians 3:5. “Put to death the deeds of the body” Romans 3:18.)

In this conflict, I hear the promise, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1John 1:9). Peace rises. Prayer feels possible and right and powerful again.

I don’t know if any of you will be as encouraged as I was, but I thought it was worth sharing! Keep pressing toward the mark and drawing nigh to God!

Lie Clocks Friday, Nov 14 2008

Okay, so this is obviously not true, so I don’t even need to go into the theology and all that… but I got a kick out of this.

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

He asked, “What are all those clocks for?”

St. Peter answered, “Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move.”

“Oh,” said the man, “Whose clock is that?”

“That’s Mother Teresa’s. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie.”

“Incredible,” said the man. “And whose clock is that one?”

St. Peter responded, “That’s Abraham Lincoln’s clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.”

“Where’s Barrack Obama’s Clock?” asked the man.

“Obama’s clock is in my office. I’m using it as a Ceiling fan.”

Okay… so let’s get this straight. Yes, I believe that we should respect those who are over us. Yes, I do pray for President-elect Obama, and so on and so forth. But I thought that this was funny. Maybe that’s wrong of me… but it’s the truth.
